Give it a moment. Just stand there and breathe. Smell the leaves on the tree, the grass at your feet and feel the touch of the breeze as it passes your face. See the leaves on the tree as they dance in the wind and glow in the light of the sun. The Roots push into the soil, grounding the tree as it reaches it's branches into the light of the summer sun. 18x26 Image size original pastel | The impression of light on the trees, is it orange or pink? Apricot maybe. The sky has hints of blue or lavender.

An original pastel. I was always fascinated by impressionism, the pure color defining form, shape, weight and value. The sienna and grey blues with ochre inviting you to pause for a moment. I look at this and my eye is drawn to areas of implied detail. Warmth of a hot day eased by the cool movement of water.
11x14 Image size Original pastel | You are driving the back roads exploring, seeing where you will end up on a hot day. Here is a rush of water, the sound is so loud, it washes everything away from your awareness. For a moment, nothing exists save you and the running river draining away the stresses of winter toward spring.
11x14 Image size pastel, Prints available | How close do you get to the stream? I wade into it, become one with it. I will sit down in it to capture and image I can paint from. The flash of light on the water and the hint of the rock formation underneath. That is what I love to create.

How long has this river surged through here? The rocks have been worn by the power of the water but they have not surrendered to it. How long were the rocks here? The strength to survive such power, each is equal here.
18x26 Image size Original pastel | You walk along a path, and you hear the roar of the water. A hint of it here, at tease of mist and suddenly you go over a rise or make a turn and wonder how you could have not known the power before you. Water rushes past where you stand, caring not that you are there. It only moves from one place to another and you are powerless on it's edge.
18x22 Image size Original pastel | A Norwegian inlet, or is it? People see so many places in this painting. Ragnhild Jonsson gave me permission to use her photo so she and I know where she was, well; I know where she lives. You feel like you can walk into it and wade in the gently lapping waters.
