Give it a moment. Just stand there and breathe. Smell the leaves on the tree, the grass at your feet and feel the touch of the breeze as it passes your face. See the leaves on the tree as they dance in the wind and glow in the light of the sun. The Roots push into the soil, grounding the tree as it reaches it's branches into the light of the summer sun. 18x26 Image size original pastel

Gentle Colors.

The impression of light on the trees, is it orange or pink? Apricot maybe. The sky has hints of blue or lavender. 8x10 Image size Original pastel

Overture of Fall

Autumn is the time of year full of portents. Magic, snow, candy, family and slumber. Days are warm, nights are cool and the colors are Glorious! We think of Witches and play with leaves, delicious baking scents fill the air and children dream of being super heros or goblins for a night. Here is a portal into a magical kingdom with the colors that call to the imagination and spirit.

A Love to Grow With

Girls love horses, there is no truer statement ever. Maybe it is the thought of something so big and powerful that is loyal to you. Perhaps it is the ability to fly while you are riding upon the creatures back. What ever the reason, it is a love that reaches across a specie barrier and transcends all reason. I have been here, we don't know why another being sees us and wants to be around us but horses teach girls so many things. We are strong, self-reliant, independent creatures because of horse

Golden Aspens

Dappled gold filters the bright sunlight shining through the the silver trees. They create a screen that can protect you from intrusion so that you can be involved but at peace at the same time.

Late Summer Sentries
Misty Morning

Your following footprints down a muddy path. Woodland creatures have traveled this way in search of safety and support. Through the mist you walk, seeing the leaves clinging bravely to trees. Snow will bring them down eventually but for now, they wave courageously as you come to the river.

Harvest Sun

An original pastel drawing, this was an image that a local weather man named Mark Peterson took from MT while he was harvesting. He gave me permission to use his photo and I am very grateful. 9x12 image size Original pastel

Autumn Sunset

An original pastel. The sun is setting after a long day of working with the live stock on the ranch. You have the satisfaction of a long days work. Tired as you ride in from the fields, you pause to enjoy the last few hours of a warm day knowing that winter is flirting with the frosty bite that you wake to in the morning. 9x12 Image size Original Pastel

Trailing Light

An original pastel, my friend Amy Adams gave me permission to use this image she took of the sun setting over Lake Erie. I felt like I was standing on the dock divorced from land. The image is of water and light, with the gentle movement of wind across the water. 10x13 Image size Original pastel

Spring Dance

Kneel down to see it, the spring trickles down over the rocks. Only water and stone here, the player and the instrument. Joy playing in the light. 5x7 Image size Original pastel

The Perfect Spot

Right there, yep well maybe to the left. Throw your hook in there where it slows down a bit and wait. It is a pretty place to wait, or sit. 11x18 Image size Original Pastel

Light in Shadow

An original pastel. I was always fascinated by impressionism, the pure color defining form, shape, weight and value. The sienna and grey blues with ochre inviting you to pause for a moment. I look at this and my eye is drawn to areas of implied detail. Warmth of a hot day eased by the cool movement of water. 11x14 Image size Original pastel

Spring Run

You are driving the back roads exploring, seeing where you will end up on a hot day. Here is a rush of water, the sound is so loud, it washes everything away from your awareness. For a moment, nothing exists save you and the running river draining away the stresses of winter toward spring. 11x14 Image size pastel, Prints available

Serenity Moves

How close do you get to the stream? I wade into it, become one with it. I will sit down in it to capture and image I can paint from. The flash of light on the water and the hint of the rock formation underneath. That is what I love to create. 13x15 Image size Original pastel

Power and Stregnth

How long has this river surged through here? The rocks have been worn by the power of the water but they have not surrendered to it. How long were the rocks here? The strength to survive such power, each is equal here. 18x26 Image size Original pastel

The Rush.

You walk along a path, and you hear the roar of the water. A hint of it here, at tease of mist and suddenly you go over a rise or make a turn and wonder how you could have not known the power before you. Water rushes past where you stand, caring not that you are there. It only moves from one place to another and you are powerless on it's edge. 18x22 Image size Original pastel

Rocky Inlet.

A Norwegian inlet, or is it? People see so many places in this painting. Ragnhild Jonsson gave me permission to use her photo so she and I know where she was, well; I know where she lives. You feel like you can walk into it and wade in the gently lapping waters. 16x20 Image size Original pastel

Winter Blues

The mighty Columbia tricks you into believing that it is moving slow. Here, it lays in wait as the ice creeps across it's surface. A quiet battle of the elements that sits deceptively in silence. Cold beauty for you to appreciate. 8x10 Image size Original pastel

Winter Colors

I am fascinated by snow and water, especially when the sky overhead is a true blue. "The bluest skies you'll ever see are in MT." or reflected in it's waters. 5x7 Image size Original Paste.

Winter, Water and Old Wood

I had a dear relative visit me in North Idaho and she asked that I paint her favourite things snow, a river and old structures. We drove all over where I live and despite her being from TX, she loved every stop in the crisp air. 9x12 Original Image Original pastel

Snowy Inlet

The color is Bottle Blue and that is what the water looks like when the air is crisp and clear above it. You get this in deep winter when it is so cold and the air pressure is so high, nothing but the birds and the sun is above it. 7x12 Image size

River in Winter

Your driving on a dirt road trying to get home before sunset. It is important to beat the storm that is coming in but you come to a bend and the picture is so perfect. Diving for the camera, you leap into the frigid air to capture this image. The water is so cold, it is green! but the light is perfect and you don't want to miss it. I've looked for it again, but never seen it like this twice. 8x10 Image size Original pastel

Winter River and LIght

The light is flirting on the water, and the movement is dancing despite the arresting cold. Snow isn't just white, do you see? The only thing that stays the same is the branches and even they are influenced by winter. 8x10 image size Original pastel

Ocean Reflections

Yep, that is it. You know where it is. Most people who are lucky to visit the Oregon coast have seen it. Now, look at the gentle colors of sunset reflected in the sand as the tide caresses the shore. What do you see now? 12x16 Image size Original pastel

Dancing Waters

The rocks have been there longer than we have. Relentless tides pound at them, or is the tide sending the foam to dance around them? Today may not be a day of violence but an image of water and rocks at play. 7x18 Image size Original pastel

Desert Spring

Once a year, briefly; the rains come to the high dessert. Color explodes and life blooms in glory. 5x7 Image size Original pastel

Gearing up

Deep in the middle of Idaho, there is a working beef ranch. Winter, spring, summer and fall they harness the horses, feed the stock and live a life many of us dream of but few truly realize. 18x23 Image size Original pastel

The Destination

The light raises as the sun rises. You hear the staccato of hooves as the deer play right outside your canvas wall. The birds sing and you know that you have come to a place of peace. 9x12 Image size Original pastel
